Studio 203
I am now a near full time painter after a lifetime of varied production experiences, mostly as a George Mason High School art and design faculty member. I have taught and applied several generations of media technologies, establishing the first digital engineering design lab in our high school. I served as the technical director for every school theatrical for 36 years, built a photography program, established IB art in our school, mentored our FIRST robotics competition team, and taught computer graphic design for various creative engineering applications; in other words, a lifetime of what might be described as a multimedia technologist. I now am confronted by the technical rigors and conceptual challenges of working with some of the most basic and traditional materials, oil paint on canvas. Not that I haven’t used drawing and painting skills throughout this career. I just never had time to focus exclusively on painting, and now I want to develop this ability as much as I can in the last decades of my life. I have found that I have much to learn and plenty of need for growth. Nevertheless, I want everything I make to be polished and worthy of contemplative consideration.
